Athletes from across Alberta gathered at the Special Olympics’ 2025 Joey Moss Invitational Floor Hockey Tournament at the Edmonton Expo Centre for a day of competition and community building. The Invitational celebrates athletes of all abilities, uniting in the spirit of sport and collaboration in the annual floor hockey tournament.
Dow had the privilege of supporting this event with a $25,000 investment, subsidizing expenses for athletes, making it one of the most affordable and inclusive events in Special Olympics Alberta History. The remainder of Dow’s ALL IN ERG Fund grant enabled the purchase of floorball equipment, a brand new sport for Special Olympics, with the aim of fostering inclusivity in smaller communities, as well as allocated funds to promoting inclusion among Indigenous populations, strengthening Special Olympics Alberta’s commitment to reconciliation and partnership with Indigenous communities.
A dozen Dow employees, many of whom are members of the company’s Disability Employee Network (DEN) Employee Resource Group (ERG), were on the front lines, enjoying their time volunteering as score keepers and timekeepers.
“We are incredibly proud to partner with Special Olympics to help athletes to participate in the Joey Moss Invitational. This event aligns with DEN’s mission to empower people of all abilities. It was such an honour and pleasure to witness the dedicated athletes compete with such energy, sportsmanship and passion,” said Courtenay Boyda, Dow Canada’s Special Olympics Partnership Project Leader and Disability Employee Network (DEN) Canada Leader. “Volunteering at this tournament allowed our employees to see firsthand the impact of not only what Special Olympics does, but also the impact our ALL IN ERG Fund grant.”
The Fund allows employees to apply for funding to support a local community organization they are passionate about and to harness the passion and perspective Dow’s 10 ERGs to collaborate to address inclusion, diversity and equity needs. Along with DEN, the Rise ERG (fostering positive integration of new employees) and the Dow Indigenous Network also collaborated to support the application for funding for this project.

“The Special Olympics Joey Moss Tournament was a remarkable celebration of athleticism, community, and inclusivity. The Special Olympics athletes were amazing to partner with, demonstrating the power of sports to unite and inspire,” said Graham Aitken, Alberta Operations RISE ERG Leader. An amazing cause to support, the event highlighted the importance of community involvement and the profound impact of collective efforts. The support of the event was very impressive, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting inclusivity and acceptance for all.”
Special Olympics Alberta is an inclusive sport organization supporting more than 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities, bringing the transformative power and joy of sport to communities across the province. Dow is proud to partner with them, enriching lives and advancing our commitment to building inclusive communities.
