Charitable grants

We address community-identified needs and support disaster resiliency & response while advancing equitable opportunities in the communities in which Dow operates. Opportunities considered include:

• Helping individuals access immediate, basic needs and environments that are inclusive, healthy and safe so all can thrive
• Reducing the impact of disasters and humanitarian crises affecting Dow communities and colleagues
• Advancing long-term, community change through breakthrough solutions and collaborations

For thriving communities, we seek to create partnerships that create the following outcomes:

• Access to community resources (e.g., food, shelter, clothing, health care, or other basic needs)
• Improved social, health, emotional, and financial wellbeing
• Access to safe, affirming, and inclusive environments
• Long-term alignment around a common agenda to address systemic challenges
  

We work to build and diversify STEM & skilled trades education pipelines and connect students with innovation-based jobs, with an emphasis on underrepresented populations and youth. Opportunities considered include:

• Connecting students to post-secondary careers in STEM & skilled trades
• Expanding access to quality STEM and skilled trades secondary education
• Expanding and diversify STEM primary education teacher pipelines

For STEM & Skilled Trades, we seek to create partnerships that create the following outcomes:

• Increase number of underrepresented workers in the STEM & skilled trades pipeline, particularly for innovation-based jobs
• Increase number of equity-deserving students who attain, retain, or improve employment in STEM or skilled trades
• Increase in the number of equity-deserving students receiving exposure to STEM & skilled trade education
• Increase recruitment and retention of underrepresented teachers in STEM
  

We promote circularity, decarbonization, water stewardship and healthy ecosystems with a focus on communities that experience disproportionate environmental risks and burdens. Opportunities considered include:

• Fostering efficient circular systems, with an emphasis on waste collection and management infrastructure
• Advancing water stewardship and habitat conservation

For sustainability, we seek to create partnerships that create the following outcomes:

• Increase in the number and adoption of new technologies that support circular systems
• MT of waste recycled
• Reduced CO2 emissions
• Increased acres of land conserved and restored
• Increased acres of healthy habitats
• Increased MT of ocean-bound plastic recovered
• Increased access to clean water

Should we apply for a charitable grant or a sponsorship? What is the difference between the two under Dow Canada’s definitions?

If your organization has a program, project, or activities that support Dow’s community investment priority areas and outcomes (Thriving communities, STEM & Skilled Trades or Sustainability), please apply through the charitable grant process.

If your organization is seeking funding to support a community or Indigenous-led event including but not limited to galas, golf tournaments, or Powwows, apply through Dow’s sponsorship program [add link].

Are there opportunities—or expectations—for Dow employees to volunteer if my organization receives a charitable grant?

On the application, you will find the opportunity to detail volunteering opportunities, and it is a consideration for the grant advisory committee when reviewing applications.

However, we understand each organization has its own resource considerations and processes to adhere to (such as confidentiality), so having opportunities for Dow employees to volunteer is not a requirement to receive a charitable grant.

What financial documents, audits, or governance materials must we provide?

If you are a registered charity or qualified donee with Canada Revenue Agency or educational institution, you do not have to provide additional documentation. If you are a non-profit incorporated in Alberta or Ontario who has not been approved for Dow funding in the past, you must email canada@dow.com to provide proof of incorporation, bylaws, and past financial audits to be deemed eligible. Your audit must be completed by a Professional Accounting Firm to be deemed eligible.
